Cabriolet

Description

For consignment, inspired by the Lincoln Zephyr, and the current art deco craze of the era, we have in our presence a 1937 Ford Cabriolet.  This build was completed in 1995 and comes to us from South Carolina.  A 4 owner car with fine attention to details, always garaged since the rebuild and looking hot!

Exterior
This design is so sexy I think I'm going to shed a tear-drop, which should perfectly match the now halogen headlight which is on each front curvaceous fender.  These go hand in hand with the V shaped curved inward vertical grille that now sports horizontal red painted ribbing as it lowers to the front bumper.  Above those bodacious fenders is the hood which now has some sporty open air vents to cool this big mill now stuffed under the hood.  Running boards are seamlessly attaching the front and rear fenders which the consignor states are fiberglass on all 4 corners.  The remainder of the car is all steel, all rust free, and all straight.  It is bathed in Dana red, and whomever applied it knew exactly what they were doing.  Chromed accenting is throughout this car on the exterior as are the American Racing Torque Thrust wheels in 14-inch form for the front, and 15-inches for the back.  185/70R14's are upfront wrapping the Torque Thrusts and in back 235/70R15's, from the 32nd week of 1997.     On the back the nicely rounded trunk hands off to the rear fenders and stalked tail lighting is hanging from either side.  Another pristine rounded bumper is below and on top is a beautifully preserved chopped 3 inches, which is a khaki padded canvas convertible top.

Interior
Inside, nearly a whole cattle ranch was used to cover the door panels, seats and rear jump seat bench.  It's all beautifully preserved, nice and tight and presenting in tan finery.  Some square and rectangle stitching is seen on these panels and seats to add more interest and luxury.  Upfront a full metal jacket red dash is now housing cream background vintage type faced analog gauges from Classic.  These have shiny bezels in their edges, and there are plenty of them lined up within an aluminum ribbed panel over the red dash front.  An oval panel houses the radio, which is an AM/FM/Cassette version and this car also has CD playing capabilities along with a killer speaker setup.  AC is installed with aircraft styled stainless vents.  Power windows, a power trunk release, (and the trunk is as fab as the interior… also in tan), as well as some courtesy lighting to make it simple to find your way in the dark.  Fronting the dash is an Ididit tilt column with a chromed V8 badged banjo steering wheel that has a red outer rim with the beautiful original chrome in the center.  Very clean tan carpeting is flooding the floors, and that jump rear seat can be moved to add more storage when no one is in it.  Tinted glass keeps things all cool inside along with the AC!

Drivetrain
Under the hood I need to don my shades to keep my eyes from going blind from all the bling.  The hood is covering a 350ci V8 with an Edelbrock carb topping it, and a TH350 3-speed automatic on back.  Wheels are easily spun with a 10 bolt 3.08 rear axle.  Wonderfully red and chromed bolt-ons make for a very appealing engine bay and worth the heave of the hood.

Undercarriage
Like new with a red painted frame, pumpkin driveshaft, and leaf springs.  The remainder of the solid steel is painted black with some textured undercoating.  A Mustang II front suspension is in front and on back some leaf springs.  Power disc braking is upfront, and power drums for the rear.  A glasspack style muffler system in stainless steel is evacuating spent fossils and air with the aid of headers in the engine.

Drive-Ability
The leather grabbed me as I soaked in the interior color and I went for a spin.  One the test track it performed beautifully, nice smooth acceleration, road free panic stopping and all functions were just perfect and in working order.

With this car's original design, and the mods that ensued later, we now have a real show piece, custom '37 Cabriolet in our midst, and perfect for the rodder who wants to go and show with a turn of the key.  There is an above comment about the “deuce” being so popular, but I think whomever says that needs to look at this example and it may just change your mind!
