Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1962 GMC C1000 Custom Suburban!

The Suburban nameplate is the longest running nameplate being in production for 87 years, and counting, and contrary to popular belief, the Suburban nameplate did not start with General Motors. The "Suburban" trademark was owned by U.S. Body and Forging Co. of Tell City, Indiana and licensed to several auto manufacturers such as DeSoto, Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Studebaker, Nash, and yes, Chevrolet and GMC. Chevrolet started using the nameplate in 1935 and GMC in 1937 and in 1978, with the end of the production of the Plymouth Fury Suburban, Chevrolet and GMC became the sole brands using the Suburban nameplate and in 1988 General Motors was awarded the exclusive trademark to use the nameplate. Chevrolet continues to this day to use the Suburban nameplate whereas GMC rebranded their version the Yukon XL in 2000.

1960 marked the 25th anniversary and start of the 5th generation of the GM-based Suburban. It featured all new styling with a more streamlined design that incorporated a wrap-around windshield with sliding side windows and a redesigned front end. Additional changes included front independent suspension now 2wd and 4x4 versions were designed "C" or "K". There were several engine choices available with four different sized inline 6-cylinder engines, a 305ci V6 that was only available on the GMC version, and two different V8 engines: the 283ci and 327ci. Transmissions were limited to either the 2-speed Powerglide automatic, 3-speed synchromesh manual, or 4-speed synchromesh manual.

This 1962 GMC C1000 Suburban features the Custom trim and is equipped with the GMC only 305ci V6 mated to the 4-speed synchromesh transmission. The 305ci V6 was being used for GMC medium-duty trucks but was made available in the Suburban as it provided a plethora of power making 165hp at 3,600rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at just 1,600rpm. It features power steering and manual brakes with 4-wheel drums. Originally finished in Cameo White, it was treated to a refreshing in 2000 and repainted Spectramaster Blue in June of 2001. The interior is very original and still in great shape and the engine bay was also refreshed with the exterior in 2001. The odometer is currently showing 48,469 miles which may or may not be original and the only in-op item is the radio.

It runs and drives very well with no mechanical issues and is currently riding on Good Year Wrangler Trail Runner AT tires with 2019 date codes sized 31" x 10.5" on factory 15" wheels. It also has seatbelts installed for rider safety and it is fully serviced, including fresh oil in the oil bath air filter, and is ready for your next adventure! It comes with 3 sets of keys, a brochure, some service records, and pictures of it in 2000 before the repaint to blue.
