Deep Black Paint/390ci V8/Rebuilt Holley 3-2bbl Carburation/Toploader Manual

For consignment, a former Mecum Auction purchase...the car still showing well to this day. This was known in the day as a total performance vehicle, and will put out some serious horses thanks to the 390ci V8 and 3-2bbl carburetor set up.  Nicely presented with great paint, and a like new black interior, a highway cruiser or street bruiser, it will have you envisioning yourself running down the back roads of Georgia with a trunk full of shine and the lawman on your tail.

Exterior
With mirror-like chromed front and rear bumpers, dual headlights and an undulating horizontal ribbed grille as well as turbine style round tail lights, this is truly a jet age car.  Straight steel panels are bathed in Raven Black and show only a few minor imperfections.  Meanwhile, a nice badged trim spear runs from front to back in the mid section, tastefully breaking up the black and adding a touch of class.  Chrome crossed flags 390ci call outs are seen at the bottoms of each front fender along with jet age red, white and blue ovals high up on the rear quarters.  Glossy Raven Black steel wheels with chrome center hubcaps wrapped in blackwalls gives this car a somewhat unassuming look…but beware!  The huge black steel roof gracefully swoops down to meet the 3 bedroom NYC apartment sized trunk and with its pseudo-fastback styling, gives the aura of motion even when standing still.

Interior
Black tuck and roll vinyl inserts which have piping wrapped in the form of a bomber style buckets with snappy chrome and black seat frames. This same motif is on the rear bench, which displays with an upper center mounted seat speaker.  These front buckets flank a center console with padded top storage compartment and a ribbed chrome insert for the long arm chrome shifter area.  The seats present well with only minor age wrinkling and compression of the padding underneath.  The door panels are also covered in black vinyl, some ribbed and some smooth with two swooping chromed trim pieces breaking the panels up.  A chrome insert surrounds the door armrest and more chrome makes an appearance for the cranks, actuators and bezels for the black leather door pull.  The dash is all original looking and has been restored, as has the original steering wheel.  Black carpet covers the floors and black rubber Ford floor mats are seen in the front and rear of the passenger compartment.  A Mooneyes tachometer has been added to the top center of the padded dash over the speaker grille and we note a few punctures and cracks in the black padded topper.

Drivetrain
This “top loader” 4-speed manual equipped car comes with a big block FE 390ci V8, and has a trio of Holley 2-barrel carbs which were recently rebuilt.  An aluminum intake is on to deliver the fossils and air to the mighty mill and gold valve covers and a black crinkle finish air cleaner adds just the right retro feel.  An upgrade to Pertronix electronic ignition was performed about 6 months ago.  A 4-speed manual top loader transmission is attached to the back of the mill.  Power to the rear wheels goes through a Ford 9-inch 3.00 rear.  A thoroughly restored engine bay with miles deep black paint along with some chrome dress up for the power steering reservoir will make you look twice.

Undercarriage
Miles of black steel make up this expansive undercarriage, all with little to no signs of rust, and that includes the surface variety.  Independent coil springs upfront, and leaf springs on the rear provide the suspension.  An upgrade to power disc brakes are on the front, and power drums on the rear.  A good-looking Flowmaster exhaust makes its way from the cast iron headers at the engine to turn-down style tailpipes under the rear bumper.  We note that a new fuel tank has been installed as well as a new fuel pump to help keep you out in front of the backwoods smokey.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooth idler, this car left us with no disappointment.  It can cruise, and it can accelerate on demand.  Everything was functioning on our drive save for the horn not beeping.  We did notice a slight exhaust leak from the passengers side of the car and a bit of blue smoke on start up and at wide open throttle.

A nicely done car, certainly not perfect, but a driver, never a garage queen.  Deep Raven black exterior paint, and a black vinyl interior, with a powerful mill and top loader transmission, we are ready to go to hyperdrive.  Keep your eyes on the rearview...the lawman caught word of our cargo in the trunk.
