Fully Restored/3 Owner Truck/Rebuilt 218ci I6/New Brakes/New Wiring/New Interior
For consignment, a restored Dodge B2 pickup right out of 1951, complete with meticulous handiwork, a great interior, a clean body and miles deep paint. Originally a Pennsylvania farm truck that was used and put out to pasture, as was the fate for most farm trucks of the day. This 3 owner example was rescued from the pasture by a father and son who over the course of 20 years took this truck down to the frame and restored it to the beauty seen before you. As what normally happens in life, the son moved on from his passion for older vehicles, (college, girls, marriage, and an out of state job tends to do that). But this truck has taken its owners for several fun-filled rides and now it's time for this well done hauler to be passed on and continue its life with a new owner. Are you ready to step up to the plate? Read on and prepare to fall in love with a rarely seen hauler.
Exterior
Near laser straight exterior steel with no signs of rust is all bathed in a paint job of dark industrial green, a stunning look that perfectly accentuates the lines of this pilot house truck. Chrome is used sparingly on this truck, but what is used highlights the paint swimmingly. A chrome trimming hovers above the slowly widening grille and leads the way to a black finished front bumper. Headlights with chrome trim rings sit outboard on the flat nose with very nice small round signal lights sitting below. The lower body has small running boards in black which tuck neatly under the body before becoming apparent at the front of the bed before melting into the nicely arched rear fenders. Leading back to the windshield is a center hinged hood and giving access to both sides of the engine bay. From here the split pane slightly veed out windshield runs up the cab and stops at the start of the nicely curved roof. The glass presents mar and scratch free and the "pilot house" glass gives more than ample viewing out of the rear of the cab from the central rear window and wrap around side panes. Bringing up the rear is a more dark green for the inside of the bed which flows up to the canted outward bed rails. A clean wood bed floor presents as nice and is shown off with shiny stainless slats between the boards. A simple DODGE embossed tailgate hovers above a bumperless rear roll pan with outboard small round tail lights. 16" body color painted steel wheels adorn the corners with Dodge dog dish caps and are wrapped in deeply treaded blackwall rubber.
Interior
Swinging the green painted metal framed doors we are met with more green steel and a like new dark saddle vinyl panel to hold the chrome cranks and actuators. An original dark green full metal jacket dash complete with central gauge clusters that has a speedometer on the left and to the right is a chrome mesh speaker mount. Sitting in the center are a quadrant of supporting gauges with knobs and the ignition switch down below. Turning our attention to the seats we see a sprawling bench seat with a saddle vinyl covering and lap belts for added safety. This seat presents as nearly new and looks to not even have been sat in. A large black steering wheel with the column shift gear selector fronts the dash and down low textured black rubber floods the floors. A saddle headliner hangs above and this material also wraps the rear of the cab.
Drivetrain
Lifting the 2 sides of the center hinged hood reveals a rebuilt 218cu L-headed inline 6 cylinder. Under the black oil bath air cleaner assembly is a rebuilt 1bbl carburetor feeding this mill its proper mix of fossils and air. A 3-speed manual transmission is on back and sends power to a 3.73 geared rear axle. Our consignor notes that a new distributor, points, condenser and clutch were installed during the restoration as well as all new wiring.
Undercarriage
Minor surface rust on the usual suspects but all structurally sound for the frame, body hangers under running boards, and floor pans are seen. The undersides of the bed wood appears as new and the front suspension is in the form of leaf springs, and more leaf springs on the rear. New shocks have been installed during the redux as well. Drum brakes are noted all around with new wheel cylinders and brake shoes. A single exhaust pipe flows down from the engine and flows into a new muffler and tailpipe assembly.
Drive-Ability
This truck started right up and ran smoothly. The suspension was responsive, and brakes brought me to a quick stop. With its fully restored glory and a mere 100 miles logged since completed it was like I was driving a brand new truck right out of 1951...because essentially I was!
A well done restoration that draws you in and has been proven reliable. A beautiful color combo, a rebuilt correct 6 cylinder, and the perfect post war truck look that isn't a Ford or Chevrolet. Drive this truck away and compete in your first show, yes, it's that clean!
