1956 Ford F100 Pickup

This 20 year in the making restified hay hauler turned green go getter is about as close to a resto-mod as you can get without actually putting it in the category of resto-mod. Looking much like the original a few changes were made over time and now we have a go-er and a show-er.

Exterior
All steel for the fenders, running boards and rockers which meld with original Ford metal doors and cab. A large steel front grille in chrome is in nice contrast to the overall Meadow Green paint which is nice and deep save for the roof which hasn't been restored and shows with faded paint and invasive rust around the drip rails. A shiny front straight bumper is now on and simplifies the front end. The bulbous hood with a large Ford cloisonné badge in front rolls gently back to the curved wrap around front glass. Nice round fenders and a running board frame the cab which has a small visor protruding from the front of the roof. The bed is newer, adorned with stained oak that is showing some fading but is remaining fairly strong, and separated by shiny dividers. Nicely rolled top steel for the bed sides, and a clean F O R D embossed tailgate is now closing up the back of the bed. The pristine badging and polished chromed bumpers, plus don't forget the cream painted chrome capped steel wheels all wrapped in staggered width BF Goodrich blackwall radial rubber, and I'm truly moved, and I'm just standing here looking at this baby.

Interior
A swing of the metal green painted utilitarian doors which are nearly perfect, with their ribbed edged shiny handles and cranks mounted within smooth aluminum panels have a black vinyl sill for extra arm comfort. New black carpet floats a recovered broadcloth and vinyl black and gray bench which stretches from door to door. The stock black plastic 3 spoke steering wheel fronts the dash with its graceful arch overtop of the gauge cluster. Within the cluster is a simple sweeping speedometer and below are small gauges and warning lights all with black faces and white lettering. Moving across the green steel dash we see the simple contours of the design and down below an aluminum panel with the heater control knobs. The headliner remains the original style gray cardboard and adds a touch of vintage class to this interior.

Drivetrain
There is nothing better than looking at a superior finished engine, and the one is no exception in the form of a 292ci V8 all bedecked in a retina searing yellow. A single 4-barrel Edelbrock 600cfm carb feeds fossils and air through a Thunderbird 312ci 4bbl intake. Providing nice contrast to the yellow block are black wrinkle finish valve coverings and a polished air cleaner assembly. A 3-speed manual transmission with a new clutch is on the back of the mill. Power moves to the rear wheels via a 3.73 geared rear. Also noted is an electric cooling fan and a cleanly done job of hiding the wiring harness.

Undercarriage
Nary any sign of invasive rust, just surface rust and patina to provide the presentation. The suspension both front and rear is leaf spring with new spring packs and drop spindles have been added to the front for that oh so sweet rake. For stopping duties disc brakes with power assist have been added to the front end while power drums bring up the tail end. White painted headers snake their way down from the engine and feed spent gasses through Magnaflow mufflers all being nice and shiny.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and off to the test track. I just love these old trucks and this one is as nice as they come. Great performance, smooth shifting, and bias free stopping. All controls were in order during my drive save for the wipers not wiping and the throw out bearing was a touch noisy, but I still took an extra lap around our track just to enjoy the simplicity that is this truck.

Other than commenting it is just a great build, fabulously planned, and all surfaces save for the roof have been done to the nines. I say not much else because my jaw is on the floor, and my eyes wide open in amazement of this truck version of a resto-mod. The green go getter, shot from the starting line with a press of the gas pedal… She's a handful boys and girls!
