1955 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan

Grab your helmet, strap on your harness and get ready to enter the world of the gassers in 1955 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan form. This wild looker and cooker is well done, powered by a bored and built to the hilt small block V8 and runs like, well a gasser! A true throwback to the drags of yore, I can see my crew girl in her tight pants, tied bottom button-down shirt, big hairdo and chewing a wad of gum stating "Oi loike da drahhgs", especially in Jehrsee, gimme another cigharhette…

Exterior
The timeless look of this 1955 Chevrolet has been carefully maintained with only a few subtle changes. Maintaining most of its brightwork and still wearing its original rear quarter panels, wheel houses and rockers, this sans hood and front bumper racer looks fast just standing still especially with its chrome egg crate grille akin to that of a Ferrari 250 GT. This car is bathed in satin silver, which is a texture finished paint that presents well with a few notable areas of body repair on the lower panels. Emblazoned onto the rear quarter panels is black and white highlighted red lettering giving this racer its name..."Painkiller". Up top, white bathes the roof and bright and shiny chrome trim work frames the clear windshield which is set off perfectly by the red tinted side and rear glass. Gaps are well minded, and the body presents with almost no inclusions thanks in part to the finish of the paint. Within the front wheel wells are snarling header pipes which form into a single pipe that when the engine is fired up will absolutely “rack off”. 15-inch chrome Cragar wheels are on the front and in the rear we see silver painted steel wheels with pie crust style cheater slicks to finish out the gasser look splendidly.

Interior
Black tufted tuck and roll vinyl panels are screwed to the door panels that house the shiny handles and knobs. Slipping inside, clean black vinyl low back bucket seats grace the front with textured seating surfaces and smooth shiny bolsters. In the name of weight savings the rear seat has been deleted and replaced with a simple black vinyl panel and we note a tufted tuck and roll rear package tray in door panel matching black. A silver steel tube rollbar has been added for safety and provides adequate protection for the driver. The dash retains its iconic dual fan design with the driver's side housing the gauge cluster with a tachometer mounted top dead center and on the passenger side the Chevrolet badged speaker fan in your grandmother's script. Gone is the mini bowtie insert and now we see a dash face of clean silver steel. Below the dash is a duo of aftermarket black faces gauges to monitor engine vitals and a radio delete panel is noted. No carpeting and no headliner are present, but hey its a gasser, and we note a few repaired areas on the black steel floors along with a short handled Hurst shifter on the hump in front of the twin oil cans, now used as cup holders.

Drivetrain
With no hood present, the whole world is free to gawk at the well done mill between the fenders. The mill is a 283ci small block Chevy V8 bored .125 over and now displacing 301ci of orange block muscle. Within this block is a DZ-302 solid lifter camshaft and 12.5:1 high dome pistons. Topping this monster mill are a pair of double hump 462 cylinder heads with hardened pushrods, guideplates, Comp Cams aluminum roller rockers and screw in studs. A factory GM aluminum intake manifold provides the mounting point for the dual Carter 4bbl carburetors which are finished off with small round chrome air cleaners. Bolted to the back of the mill is a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission with an aluminum flywheel and a Lakewood bellhousing. Putting all the power to the pavement is a 4.56 TracLoc equipped Ford 9" rear axle.

Undercarriage
A mix of restored and original with a mix of nice black finish and heavy surface rust on the frame, supports and flooring. A strong frame has a Speedway solid axle kit with leaf springs and disc brakes on the front and 5 leaf station wagon leaf springs with Ansen Ground Grabber traction bars and drum brakes on the rear. The snaking fender well Hooker Super Competition headers tie into long straight exhaust piping with Flowmaster mufflers and end in front of the rear axle. Should you want to wake the neighbors and disturb the peace, you can uncork the headers at the fender wells and play the V8 melody for all to hear. A new fuel tank is noted as is a driveshaft safety loop.

Drive-Ability
A few pumps of the throttle and a twist of the key this monster came to life. After a little bit of warm up time, (she's cold blooded folks), our resident racer took this beast out to our well hidden and patented test track and came back with a smile on his face. All functions were working during the drive and the only disappointment was the tarmac was too cold to lift the front end. Otherwise, he reported it was a "gas” with neck snapping acceleration, good handling and bias free braking thanks in part to the front disc brakes.

What a gas(ser) to have experienced and now gracing our Hallowed Halls. A classic throwback to the early drags of yore, prior to the Pro Stock class. A way to get Wallys, all jacked up, loads of power, gobs of noise, satin silver with nicely complementing red, white and black lettering paint, the perfect stance and ohlala those red tinted windows! I have a hankering for going in a straight line right now!
