Why This Car Is Special

The Ford Star Liner was a fastback version of in Galaxie line of full-size Fords in 1960 and1961. It utilized the high-level Galaxie trim, however the Galaxie name on the trunk lid was replaced by Starliner script.

We have a very special restored 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner X-Code here at Skyway Classics that is an X-code car and was restored in 2021. It features a Tri-Power 390 cubic inch engine, automatic transmission, Chesapeake Blue metallic base coat/clear coat exterior paint with a Matte Chesapeake Blue undercarriage finish and Black semi-gloss frame.

The new Galaxies, especially in Starliner trim, screamed NASCAR and NHRA; after all, the early 1960s would mark the beginning of Ford's Total Performance campaign, during which Ford would invest heavily in all forms of motorsport. The Starliner only lasted through 1961, with that model year showing minor but noticeable changes to the sheet metal and trim.

Mechanical

This 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner Custom was originally delivered with an X-Code 352 CI V-8, but today it's powered by a 390 cubic inch Tri-Power V-8 engine and it looks as it did back then with the chrome valve covers, 3-duece polished air cleaner assembly, three performance carbs, cast iron exhaust headers, and even the FOMOCO windshield washer refill bag.

It has also had a new fuel tank and fuel lines installed, a new radiator, is fitted with power steering, a Ford 9-inch rear end, new shocks, a new dual exhaust system, new brakes, and now rides on new 15-inch painted Wheel Vintiques wheels with the original center caps and black sidewall tires to give it the right period correct look and stance..

It has all the correct plumbing, hoses, wires, and engine parts and looks as nice as it sounds. It is shifted by a Ford automatic transmission that handles the big block's horsepower and out the Ford 9" HD rear end.

Interior

The interior is upholstered in black vinyl and features a split bench seat, black carpeting, matching door panels, the dash has all metal surfaces that were painted to match the exterior, all factory gauges, switches, and controls, pushbutton radio, blue Ford steering wheel, matching rear seat, and new glass and weatherstripping that was installed.

Even the headliner and the trunk area is super neat and shows well with its factory look.

Exterior

Introduced for 1960, Ford's new Galaxie Starliner was a dramatic styling shift from the 1959 model year with noticeably less ornamentation, a lower beltline, much flatter front windshield, a slim roofline with a gently sloping C-pillar and a huge back window. The front end was a simple, very flat affair, and the entire scene was very indicative of speed.

Wearing a Chesapeake Blue metallic basecoat/clearcoat exterior finish, the Galaxie was restored in 2021, with the frame painted semi-gloss and the undercarriage painted in matte Chesapeake Blue to match the body.

Adorned with refinished chrome and brightwork, including the bumpers, lower rear washboard moldings behind the rear wheel, side spear and roof molding with three Starliner-only medallions trailing along the C-pillar, the Starliner blends a sedate, muscular appearance with carefully applied moments of brightwork.

The Starliner's unmistakable pillarless fastback silhouette and signature Ford styling remain intact and beautifully finished with the correct chrome and bright metal adornments.

All body panels line up and doors are straight and true and this car rides great with plenty of pep to match the engines great growl.

Conclusion

This 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner that we have for sale here at Skyway Classics has been restored right, carries a great Ford muscle car heritage with its 390 cubic inch Tri-power engine, and is both a fantastic looker and driver that won't disappoint you.
