390 CID V8 NOM - Tri-Power - Auto. - P.B. - P.S. - P.Top - Frame Off Restoration
This 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner is gorgeous 50s cruiser with tasteful performance upgrades and was the beneficiary of a frame off restoration. In 1958, American car sales took a bit of a dip due to the economic recession at the time. Likewise, experts had predicted that American preferences would begin shifting away from large, full-size cars to smaller more economy-focused automobiles such as the Rambler and Studebaker Lark. Nonetheless, the Ford Motor Company re-vamped the styling across its entire passenger car line. Sporting new front ends with totally redesigned hoods complete with a faux scoop, new-look "Honeycomb" grilles, new fender-mounted "Gun-Sight" ornaments, and updated parking lights and bumpers, the '58 Fords had a new, more futuristic appearance. Down the sides, the gold anodized trim was both widened and lengthened from the previous year's design, running nearly the full length of the 1958 Fords. At the rear, the taillight assembly was completely redesigned, featuring a chrome trim enclosing dual oval taillights (one brake light and one turn signal) that straddled a rectangular backup light. Sitting atop the Ford passenger car hierarchy in 1958 was the Fairlane 500, which was FoMoCo's top trim level. Of course, the most expensive Fairlane 500s were the convertible models, the Retractable Hide-Away Hardtop "Skyliner" and the more conventional Softtop "Sunliner." In total, Ford produced 35,029 '58 Sunliners which made up about 3% of Ford's total production in 1958. Under the hood on this particular '58 Ford Sunliner is an upgraded 390 Cubic Inch V8 engine outfitted with a Tri-Power (three 2-barrel) carburetor setup believed to create over 400 horsepower when new. The NOM 390 V8 is backed by a Cruise-O-Matic Automatic transmission ensuring that just about anybody can take this 1958 Fairlane 500 for a spin around the block. Exhaust exits the 6 barrel 390 via a dual exhaust setup that gives this 1958 Sunliner a nice throaty sound. This 1958 Ford Convertible is loaded with fantastic options! With power steering, getting in and out of tight spaces at the local car show or drive-in is a total breeze and the overall driving experience is much improved. Power brakes makes bringing this '58 Ford Fairlane Convertible to a complete stop much easier and, for added reliability, the original single master cylinder has been upgraded to a dual master cylinder and the brake booster was upgraded to a more modern unit as well. The ivory vinyl power convertible top is in fantastic shape and goes up and down with the simple pull or push of a button mounted under the dash. This 1958 Ford Sunliner is riding on a set of wide whitewall bias-ply tires wrapped around chrome wire wheels with spinner knock-off hubcaps, giving this convertible a truly classic look. The exterior has been refinished in a beautiful Gulfstream Blue that complements the outstanding chrome and brightwork around the exterior of the car. The interior on this 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in Colonial White Vinyl with Gulfstream pleated Vinyl matching the exterior appearance of this gorgeous Fifties Ford. The dash, Gulfstream/Colonial White upholstered door panels, steering wheel, and carpeting are all in fantastic condition as well and all appear to be in their stock configuration. The Gulfstream painted dash is equipped with a semi-circular 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, as well as a clock and Town and Country AM radio.
