Here's something unusual yet a very beautiful Basil classic. This 1949 Buick Super "woody" station wagon showing just 52K miles has been handpicked and meets Joe Basil's standards of excellence and tradition of fine automobiles since 1951. Truly among the finest Buick Woody's you will find.
The earliest designs of wooden station wagons began just beyond the turn of the twentieth century with some automobile manufacturers. The design was slowly refined over the following years and by the 1940s, Buick "woody" wagons, much like this one, were often purchased and used to display a position of status by owners of sprawling southern estates. This eventually brought forth the name Buick "Estate wagon" by the 1970s, which seemed to be a considered intent to resurrect memories of the past.
This beautiful 1949 Buick Super is a truly well preserved example of the woody wagon of bygone times. Its body panels are in excellent condition and the restored paint shows as new. The wood trim along the windows and tailgate area is very well preserved and showing no signs of deterioration. The unusual dual hinged hood by Buick allows the engine to be accessible from either side rather than a conventional front opening unit. The drive train consists of an overhead valve Buick Fireball straight eight cylinder engine with a Dynaflow automatic transmission, situated in a very clean engine bay.
Viewing the interior, you are taken with the professionally upholstered blood red naugahyde seats and door panels and the excellently preserved dashboard appointments. The rear seat mechanism folds down to allow an extended cargo area usage. Stop and see this beauty, it will cause your subconscious to quickly conjure up images of historic times of the past.
