This 1947 Cadillac is a low mileage unrestored original. I purchased it on October 11, 2021, and total mileage on the odometer was 63,270. I have driven it 1,230 trouble free miles. Total miles on July 7, 2023 64,500. (2) The interior is all original & pristine. Headliner, seat fabric, & door panels are original showing minimal wear are in excellent condition. The front & rear floor mats are original so called "hogs hair" type showing only slight wear. Dashboard & interior door moldings are painted with a faux wood grain lacquer paint. The top coat has the normal crazing patina typical of the lacquer paint used on General Motors cars of that vintage. (4) The engine & 4 speed Hydramatic no clutch transmission were both rebuilt by the prior owner. (5)The engine compartment is clean and the exhaust manifolds have the original porcelain . The only non-original item is the real asbestos wrap on the exhaust manifolds that was was replaced with fake asbestos, and front & rear seat belts were installed for safety reasons. (5) Everything on the car works with the exception of the electric clock and vacuum powered up/down function of the radio antenna. Working items include the speedometer, engine gages, AM radio, a backup light that turns on automatically when the transmission is shifted into reverse, fog lights, & an automatic trunk light that turns on when the trunk is opened. (6) The original lacquer paint was stripped down leaving only bare metal. The exterior body was then painted with an epoxy hardened paint in the original black color. (7) The original type battery that required frequent monitoring of the acid level has been replaced with an Antique Automobile Battery Company maintenance free battery that has fake caps that look like the original battery. There is also a battery shut off switch that was installed just behind and under the edge of the front seat to the right of the driver's seat position. This allows the battery to be turned off as the car may not be driven every day, and prevents a drain on the battery taking place that could result in a dead battery. (8) My Cadillac was invited to participate in the 2023 Highlands Motoring Festival "Cars in the Park" Antique Car Show on June 10, 2023. it was awarded the Second Place, "Essence of Highlands Award" in the American Touring Classification. The Group winner was 1957Cadillac 62 Convertible that had received a total ground up restoration. (9) I drove the 1947cadillac from my home in Flat Rock, NC (elevation 2,025 feet) to and from Highlands (elevation 4,119 feet) approximately 60 miles each way. Because of the change in elevation for that section of US Highway 64 it is a road with a very steep slopes and frequent sharp turns. (10)This 1947 Cadillac is a very heavy automobile, and it performed well, keeping up with modern cars on steep upward slopes on the way to Highlands. On the way down back to my home in Flat Rock, the brakes handled the steep slopes with ease and without any sign of fading. (11) The most recent 2023 old Cars Price Guide Big Book description of a Number 1 Excellent vehicle is "ONE RESTORED TO CURRENT MAXIMUM PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS OF QUALITY IN EVERY AREA, OR PERFECT ORIGINAL WITHCOMPONENTSOPERATING AND APPPEARING AS NEW, A 95 PLUS POINT SHOW CAR THAT IS NOT DRIVEN. In national show judging, a vehicle in number 2 condition is likely to win top honors in its class. In a sense, it has ceased to be an automobile and has become an object of art. it is transported to shows in an enclosed trailer, and, when not bein sown, is stored in a climate-controlled facility. It is not driven. only a small umber of antique cars qualify as a number 1.
