353 CID V8 - 1BBL - 3 Speed Manual - 96 HP - WWW on Wire Wheels - South History
This 1930 Cadillac Series 353 Coupe is a beautifully restored and well maintained pre-war CCCA Full Classic with wonderful options. Heading into the 1930 model year, Cadillac had big plans. First, Cadillac had planned to release new V8 models, and then cement itself atop the American luxury automaker hierarchy with the debut of its brand new V-16 models. When Cadillac introduced its new 1930 Series 353 product line in September 1929, it seemed as if everything was going in accordance the GM marque's plan. That is until October 29, 1929, otherwise known as "Black Tuesday," when the Stock Market crashed and sent the world's economy plunging into the Great Depression. Shortly thereafter, it would become evident that the upcoming 1930 model year would prove to be tough year for America's automakers, and Americans as a whole. For a marque like Cadillac, sitting at the high-end of the luxury car market, the effects of the Depression were immense since many of their customers' net worths were wiped out in nearly an instant and they no longer had the purchasing power needed to buy a brand new Cadillac. As such, Cadillac production took a major decline in 1930, building nearly 40% fewer Cadillacs in 1930 than in 1929. Nonetheless, the 1930 Cadillac Series 353s were gorgeous with such beautiful proportions sitting atop a nice long stance. On the hoods, vertical ventilated louvers were added so to extend nearly the full length of the hoods. Moreover, the windshields were raked back a bit, adding to the modern look. The bodies were also a bit wider to improve passenger's comfort. Moreover, the 1930 Cadillacs were impressive on the mechanical side as well with the inclusion of a higher displacement, higher output L-head V8 engine, that was enlarged from 341 cubic inches in 1929 all the way up to 353 cubic inches. This new bored out Cadillac V8 configuration would ultimately serve as the namesake for the 1930 Cadillac V8 models. Recently, this '30 Cadillac 353 Coupe was selected for and participated in the 2024 10,000 Lakes Concours D'Elegance demonstrating its fantastic quality, desirability, and rarity among collectors. Under the louvered hood on this 1930 Cadillac is a 353 Cubic Inch L-Head V8 engine fed by a single barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 96 horsepower when new. The namesake 353 V8 is mated to selective synchromesh 3 speed manual transmission with synchros in 2nd and 3rd gear. Exhaust exits the 353 Cadillac V8 via a single port exhaust setup. This 1930 Cadillac V8 Coupe is nicely appointed with many options. At the nose, the radiator sits below a chrome "Flying Goddess" hood ornament and the radiator is tucked behind a chrome stone guard. Sitting below the radiator is a pair of auxiliary Trippe driving lights that improve nighttime visibility while cruising down the road. Moving down the sides of this '30 Cadillac Series 353, a set of dual sidemounted spare tires sit in the fender wells and each is topped with chrome outside mirror. A pair of glass wind wings are mounted on either side of this 1930 Cadillac Coupe further adding to the upscale look and feel of the car. The rear of this Cadillac Coupe is capped off with a pair of golf club doors and an optional rear-mounted trunk rack so that you can bring all of your belongings with you on a long weekend or car cruise. Taking neighborhood kids, you grandkids, or even your mother-in-law for a ride is super fun thanks to a rear "deck seat," which aficionados know was Cadillac's official name of the rumble seat. This 1930 Cadillac V8 rides on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on painted wire wheels accented with chrome Cadillac hubcaps. The exterior of this '30 Cadillac Coupe has been refinished in a gorgeous paint scheme consisting of Claret Red over Black, and the top has been recovered in beautiful black textured vinyl. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this '30 Cadillac V8 Coupe is in fantastic condition and completes the exterior look of the car. The interior of this 1930 Cadillac Series 353 2/4 Passenger Coupe is absolutely stunning! The tufted front bench seat has been reupholstered in beautiful Silver Grey Broadcloth as have the matching door panels, headliner, visors, and storage compartment located behind the seat. The rear deck seat was reupholstered in beautiful grey vinyl that is accented with folding wooden armrests. The color-matched grey carpeting, woodgrain dash and window accents, interior chrome hardware and passenger door ashtray, chrome rearview mirror, and steering wheel are all in wonderful condition and appear to retain the stock appearance and configuration. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 120 MPH rotary-style speedometer, temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge, along with a Jaeger clock, all of which sit below dash lights.
