Mark V Continental Convertible

Description

This 1960 Lincoln Mark V Continental Convertible is a beautifully restored, luxurious convertible with impeccable post-war style! Back in 1939, the President of the Lincoln Motor Division was none other than Edsel Ford, son of the Ford Motor Company's namesake founder Henry Ford. In 1939, Edsel could be seen cruising around in his European-inspired custom-built Lincoln-Zephyr convertible. Folks were so enamored with the design of Edsel's car that he decided to put it into production in 1940, calling this new car the Lincoln Continental. Lincoln would go on to sell its top-of-the-line Continental until World War II halted American car production and then the marque continued Lincoln Continental production for the first few years after the War. When Ford and Lincoln debuted their first post-war designs, the Continental was eliminated from Lincoln's lineup, replaced instead with the Lincoln Cosmopolitan. In an effort to position a brand above Lincoln, its top marque at the time, the Continental nameplate returned in 1956 but as its own separate marque. The only automobile available from Continental was the Mark II, widely considered one of the nicest cars on the planet in 1956 and 1957. However, in 1958, the Continental name was absorbed back into Lincoln as a new model with a brand new look. The '58 Continental Mark III was completely redesigned and the changes were evident from every angle. A new slanted, dual headlight design, a brand new grille, an entirely new body, interior layout, and the availability of a powered retractable-style soft convertible top, capped off the new-look Lincoln Continental. By 1960, the Lincoln Continental Mark V reverted back to its standard naming convention and featured modest updates from the previous two model years. The front-end design received a gorgeous facelift, now sporting the criss-cross, "dot-in-a-square" grille pattern, along with a pair of chrome bar on the lower front fenders. In the rear, the taillights and backup lights were also refined in 1960, now comprised of a circular design. The interiors were also updated in 1960 and they were exceptionally luxurious. On the inside, items such as power seats and power vent windows were considered to be standard equipment on the Mark V. The interior trim was also even more ornate than the previous two-years, exemplifying the luxury look and feel of the Continental. In total, a mere 2,044 Lincoln Continental Convertibles were produced in 1960, which makes this particular example quite a rare piece of automotive history. Powering this '60 Lincoln Continental is a 430 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 315 horsepower when new. The 430 V8 is backed by an Automatic Transmission, ensuring that just about anybody can take this Mark V Convertible for a swing around the block. A nice throaty sound comes out of the rear tailpipes thanks to the dual exhaust setup. Since the Continental was the most prestigious of Lincoln's passenger car lines in 1960, they came loaded with numerous factory options! Power steering is a very welcome addition to this 5,000+ pound convertible since it makes squeezing into a tight parking spot at the local car show or drive-in much easier. Further helping with tight parking situations is the addition of a driver's side adjustable outside mirror, which makes a big difference on a cruiser of this size. With power brakes, stopping this Lincoln Mark V is also made much easier. The black vinyl power convertible top, along with the related mechanism, is in wonderful condition and works great, extending and retracting with a simple flick of a switch. Riding on a set of wide whitewall bias-ply tires with full Lincoln wheelcovers, this 1960 Lincoln Continental has a gorgeous look cruising down the road. The exterior of this '60 Mark V Continental has been refinished in beautiful Cherokee Red, completing the exterior appearance of the car. The interior of this 1960 Lincoln Mark V Continental Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in a two-tone color scheme consisting of Black and Red leather. The padded dash, black carpeting, door panels, and steering wheel are all in fantastic condition and appear to remain in their stock configuration. You'll be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days while cruising in this Mark V since it comes equipped with air conditioning. This Lincoln Mark V's front seat is power adjustable which means almost anybody can drive this convertible comfortably. Further elevating this Lincoln Continental is the inclusion of a power windows which is always a fantastic novelty on a classic car of this age. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, clock, and indicators for the climate control system. The dash is further outfitted with various controls, a Town and Country AM radio, and glovebox, and an underdash air conditioning unit. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're adding to your existing FoMoCo collection, this 1960 Lincoln Mark V Continental Convertible would make an excellent choice.
