1931 Ford

Model 400-A Convertible Sedan

Description

This 1931 Ford Model 400-A Convertible Sedan is an ultra rare, restored example of one of the most desirable Model A Fords ever produced. In the early parts of the 20th Century, Henry Ford garnered enormous notoriety for his highly-successful, affordable Model T automobile that made it possible for the every-man to own his own personal automobile. By 1926 however, Model T sales began to slip largely due to Ford's competitors' ability to catch up, and even in some cases exceed, the now-antiquated Model T's feature set. On December 2, 1927, Henry Ford and his namesame auto manufacturer introduced its newest automobile, the Model A. Touted for its overall beauty, numerous body styles, and modern features including a standard shift transmission and 4-wheel brakes, and its reasonable price, the Model A was a car that Americans could afford and enjoy, even during the tough economic conditions brought on by the Great Depression. In its first year of production, Model A passenger cars were offered in 20 different body styles but as the years progressed, Ford released additional body styles as consumer preferences shifted and production techniques improved. Introduced on May 22, 1931 the 400-A, otherwise known as the A400, is one of the most collectible body styles for the Model A due to the fact that it was only available in 1931 and less than 5,000 units were produced by Ford. The Model A400 is a 5 passenger Convertible Sedan and was a part of the sportier Deluxe line of Model A cars. Standard equipment included cowl lights, left side mounted spare tire, chrome windshield frame, leather upholstery, rear arm rests, and more. The most distinguishing attribute of the 400-A Convertible Sedan was that it was a convertible that offered covered seating for four passengers along with four roll-up windows. While Ford produced nearly 3.5 million Model A cars and trucks in the 4 year production run spanning from 1928 through 1931, a mere 4,864 of those vehicles were the famous A-400 Model, which makes this particular Ford Model A an extremely rare automobile. Under the hood on this '31 Model A400 is a 200.5 Cubic Inch L-Head Inline 4 cylinder engine fed by a single barrel carburetor that together produced 40 horsepower when new. The 201 CID 4 cylinder is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that shifted via a floor mounted standard pattern shifter. This 1931 Ford is equipped with numerous desirable options. Up front, a quail radiator cap and chrome surround windshield elevate the exterior appearance of this Model A. Chrome cowl lights are another welcome feature on this antique automobile since they greatly improve nighttime visibility. The ah-ooo-gah horn is a delightful addition to any vintage car and is period correct on a Ford of this era. Dual covered sidemounted spare tires further add to the upscale look of this iconic pre-war Ford. In addition, each sidemounted spare is topped with an adjustable mirror so that you can see what is alongside of you while cruising down the road or while squeezing into a tight parking space at the local car show. The tail end of this Model 400A is outfitted with a luggage rack along with a gorgeously refinished trunk that is attached with leather straps. Riding on a set of Tacoma Cream painted wire wheels each paired with a wide whitewall bias-ply tire and chrome hubcap, this 1931 Model 400-A Convertible has a gorgeous look while parked or while cruising down the road. The all steel body of this '31 Model A-400 has been refinished in Copra Drab with Chickle Drab reveals and straw pinstripes, and the all steel fenders have been repainted in black. The tan cloth convertible top is manually operated and completes the exterior look of the car. The interior of this 1931 Ford Model 400-A Convertible Sedan is absolutely gorgeous! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat have been reupholstered in Deep Tan Crush Leather. The light beige carpeting, upholstered door panels, woodgrain dash, and black steering wheel are in wonderful shape as well and appear to retain a nice stock appearance. The instrument cluster retains its stock look and is equipped with an 80 MPH speedometer, amp gauge, and fuel gauge. Whether you're buying your first pre-war classic car or you're adding to your existing collection of classic Fords, this 1931 Ford Model 400-A Convertible Sedan would make an excellent choice.
