1970 Chevrolet

Impala Convertible

Description

The Chevrolet Impala's fourth generation are full-size automobiles produced by Chevrolet for the 1965 through 1970 model years. The 1965 Impala was all new, while the 1967 and 1969 models featured new bodies on the same redesigned perimeter frame introduced on the 1965 models. All Impalas of this generation received annual facelifts as well, distinguishing each model year. Throughout the early 1960s, Chevrolet's basic body designs became increasingly subtle, while the bright trim that was part of the Impala package added more than a touch of luxury to the look. The same pattern was followed in the interiors, where the best materials and equipment Chevrolet had to offer were displayed. In short, the Impala was on its way to becoming a kind of junior-grade Cadillac, which, for both the company and its customers, was just fine.

The 1970 Impala got a minor facelift featuring a more conventional bumper under the grill replacing the wrap-around unit used in 1969 and new triple vertical taillights. The 1970 Impala was one of three remaining Chevrolet convertibles, with only 9,562 built. Interest in all size rag tops had dwindled. So was the fascination with large sporty cars, prompting abandonment of the Impala Super Sport. Output of full-sized Chevrolets dropped sharply for the 1970 calendar year, below the million mark, partly as a result of a 65-day strike in the fall of 1970.

This very nice Impala Convertible has benefitted from substantial investment from its current owner who bought the car about 6 years ago out of Texas. The stock instrument cluster basically just displayed the speed and fuel level, so he had a Dakota Digital Gauge Unit installed to replace the aftermarket gauges that had been placed in the ashtray area. He also added a complete correct new Interior including seat covers, carpet set, and Dash Pad. Under the hood he had tuned headers, electronic ignition, and a 4 BBL carb installed, a custom dual exhaust, New Shocks, New Heater Core, and other performance upgrades. This car is quite the performer and sounds really great. All the original parts that were replaced are still with the car. This is a Factory Air car but the system has not been converted, and is inoperable. The car wears a really top quality repaint, and the top material is in excellent condition with no flaws noted.

In excellent running and driving condition, this impala needs nothing really but a happy new owner. If you are looking for a really nice Impala Convertible You will be hard pressed to find a nicer example with this performance.
