255 Mercury Flathead - 3 Speed Manual w/Overdrive on Column $459/Month
STK 3875 1951 Mercury Sport Coupe
The Mercury Eight went into production in 1939 and was the only Mercury model through 1951. The first post-war Merc, the 1949 model, introduced new distinctive 'envelope' styling. This enclosed body appearance put an end to the monotony of pre-war styles and sales figures for both Ford and Mercury broke records in '49. This 1951 Mercury Eight Sport Coupe is from the Dennis Carpenter collection. The Merc is an original survivor with the exception of a replacement 255ci flathead V8 engine, said to be the correct year/size. It is very likely that this Merc spent decades in the dry state of Texas. The dealer emblem on the car's trunk lid reads 'Frank Weaver Motors, Gatesville' and the 1978 inspection sticker is from Texas - can't be sure, but either way this Merc is solid as a rock. The coupe looks very handsome with its original Sheffield Green finish that is accented by magnificent patina and rear fender skirts. The steel wheels with full Merc hubcaps mount 15” Firestone wide-white bias-ply tires and the chrome is in overall good condition. The interior is all-original except for some creative seat covers, but it needs some TLC. The dash is equipped with full factory instrumentation and the original AM radio (non-working). A vintage '50s Merc wheel completes the interior package. As stated above, the Mercury is powered by the replacement 255ci flathead V8 that was factory rated at 112hp and sounds strong through dual exhaust. The flathead is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission w/OD and stock differential. Steering is manual and stopping power is provided by large 4-wheel drum brakes. This is a classic, unmolested Mercury Eight Coupe that is literally timeless. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”
