This is an amazing build. This old “shoebox” runs and drives amazingly and is super reliable. It's available from the builder who has owned it for the last 22 years and is a fanatical car guy.
It's been the benefactor of a full frame off restoration. Under the flamed hood lies the heart of this beast – a pro built LQ9 6.0 LS motor, with the factory Iron block, AFR heads, running 11:1 compression. The lower end is factory with stock rods and pistons. It has a Bullet roller racing cam and bullet lifters. The engine management is Holley Terminator X, utilizing Holley injectors, throttle body and a PROformance intake manifold. It has ceramic coated full length headers which flow into 3" pipes thru 3" Mac mufflers with 3” tail pipes to the tips below the rear bumper. The exhaust has provisions for cutouts and the electric cutouts are included with the car – easy install. The electric “pusher” fuel pump is quietly sitting inside the 18-gallon fuel tank.
The engine cooling is handled by an electric fan and a 4-core griffin aluminum radiator. It has a CPP quick ratio steering box, a Hurst line lock for the front wheels.
Forward motion is controlled by a Tremec 5 speed with overdrive, a McLeod clutch with a hydraulic throw-out bearing. Gear selection is courtesy of a Hurst Blackjack shifter with a custom made "devil's tail” shifter handle which is Powder coated aluminum, truly one of a kind and very fitting of a car with hellish flames on it.
Under the car we can find a custom drive shaft with front loop. The drive shaft built has larger u-joints and is made with heavy gage tubing. Putting all this force to the ground is a tried and true 9.75” Dana60, stuffed with 4.10 gears and an Eaton locker. The rear also has a Lakewood slapper bar setup. It has Ford 11x2 drum brakes with Strange Street / Strip axles, brakes up front are DISC. The rear springs are relocated on the frame to accommodate 10" wheels. The drivetrain is bullet proof. The battery is mounted in the trunk and there's a main power Cutoff switch above rear bumper.
The front suspension consists of adjustable coil-overs, lower tubular A arms, a front sway bar, and as stated before a front disk brake conversion. The brakes are manual and with the fulcrum pin moved, it's much easier to apply than your standard manual brakes would be.
The interior is very nice, the front bucket seats are from a 65 GTO, and all the seating material is done with custom upholstery and new seat foam. The Driver's seat is stanchioned to the floor as the owner is very tall. You will need to adapt a slider to have the seat move if you are shorter than say 6'6”, that's pretty easy to do with kits available everywhere. Both rear windows have regulators, but the handles are removed. You can add them back in if you like by simply cutting small holes in the rear side panels. The rear windows work fine. It has had an Electric wiper motor conversion, a big upgrade over vacuum operated wipers. It has a tilt column and custom classic gauges. This is very cool – the car's glove box is signed by James Taylor of TWO-LANE BLACKTOP FAME!!
The body and paint are amazing. Most of the body's stainless trim has been shaved off. It has no door locks, and the rear deck lid sports a '56 Chrome “V”. True to 50's custom touches, the front grille is from 1st Gen Corvette, and man it looks AWESOME! The front of the car's nose has had PPF applied; this greatly helps with rock chips on these very un-aerodynamic 50's cars.
The paint, OH THAT PAINT! It is DuPont Hot Hues basecoat / clear coat. It was applied in 2008 by Lenny Shaeffer of Chop shop customs in Woburn, MA. The car had new rear quarter panels, a new right fender, and door skins applied to insure the car was as straight as we could get it.
The car has a clear title, and it's VERY dependable, fly in and drive her home!
