1956 Porsche 356A Speedster Replica Roadster
Does the thought of owning a classic Porsche tantalize you until you view your bank account? Consider this alternative, a replica roadster and the best part is, no one else has to know.
Within the last 25 years, replicas of the 356 A have become very popular. This one, dressed in red, is quite striking and was built by Classic Motor Carriages out of Miami, Florida.
The paint and trim look great while the bodywork is straight and solid. The engine bay is very tidy while the frunk looks great. There are a pair of vintage amber foglights perched above the chrome front bumper. It and the back bumper fit tightly to the body.
This speedster rolls on Hankook radials up front, size 205/50R15, and Kumho radials in back, size 225/50R15. Each one is mounted on steel wheels topped with Porsche Moon wheel covers.
The most typical engine for these recreations was a 1.6L four-cylinder boxer, which was air-cooled, naturally aspirated with dual downdraft Zenith carburetors, had a two-valve per cylinder OHV valvetrain and produced 59 horsepower and a maximum torque of 81 lbs-ft. It's mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
The interior features distressed styled upholstery, vintage-style gauges, seat belts and a steering wheel reminiscent of yesteryear. The bucket seats are in excellent order, the complementing brown carpet looks great, as does the three-spoke steering wheel with wood rim. Tach and fuel gauge are inop. The dashboard and door cards are in excellent order. A floor-mounted shifter completes the interior.
Competition to this Porsche in 1956 included Alfa Romeo's Giuletta Spider and MG's MGA.
