1929 Ford Model A Roadster
Classic Car Addict is excited to bring you this historic 1929 Ford Model A Roadster for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. The history behind this Ford is what we think you'll love. This was allegedly one of many vehicles that John Dillinger stole while he was on the run from the police. In 1934, Dillinger stole a 1929 Ford Model A in St Paul, Minnesota during his escape from the authorities. The car was later abandoned in Chicago where the police recovered it. Dillinger often stole Ford's because they were fast, widespread, and easy to find for parts. This 1929 Ford is documented with an Illinois title showing transfer June 1st, 1936.
The cabin features a bench seat upholstered in black vinyl with matching door panels. The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a speedometer, an ammeter, and a fuel-level gauge. Additional Rex-A-Co gauges were added to the lower steering column showing water and oil readings. The five-digit odometer shows 67 miles; total mileage is unknown.
The bodywork was finished in Arabian Sand Dark with matching fenders, running boards, and the Ford is equipped with a black soft top. The 16” wire wheels are finished in black and are mounted to Excelsior classic tires 4.50/4.75-Z1. A matching spare tire is mounted to the driver's side fender. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums.
The 201ci L-head inline-four with a Zenith one barrel carburetor was factory rated at 40 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft of torque. Work since 2020 included cleaning the fuel tank and carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission.
