Description

1991 Citroen BX14 TGE

NO TITLE SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY

A pioneer in every area he turned his mind to, Andre Citroën was served by his inquisitiveness, determination, and willingness to take risks. He established one of the most remarkable automakers the world has ever seen and rose to become one of history's most successful industrialists. For 9 years the CITROEN badge was in lights on the Eiffel Tower making it the world's largest billboard for those years.

For consignment, a Citroen BX14 TGE complete with hydropneumatic suspension adjustable to 3 positions, a hatchback, and room enough for the entire family, and their belongings.

Exterior
With a chiseled design making heavy use of square and rectangles, this car is sculpted to be a 5 door saloon hatchback. All draped in red with black trimmings, a rear spoiler and rear fender skirting, it looks just a bit unusual, but for the dual chevron company, it was well within the norm. The neoprene front bumper is totally devoid of chrome and has a swept back angled rearward design that is only found on Citroen. Some damage to the bumper can be seen on the passenger wheel well where this bumper meets the well. A rear spoiler and 14-inch silver painted steel wheels, and the remainder of the car being boxy design, we give you viva la France!

Interior
A swing of the doors and more artistic license is throughout. Seen on the panels is a nice mixture of smooth charcoal gray vinyl for the sills and molded door pulls/armrests. In the mood section broadcloth with what this writer would best describe as a snowy TV reception pattern in different shades of gray attract attention. This broadcloth continues to be utilized in the seating arrangement with curvaceous front buckets with the broadcloth pattern on the inserts, and smooth charcoal gray fabric covering the bolsters. In the back is a 2 plus 2 bucket/bench in the similar pattern as the front buckets. A small molded plastic center console races through the buckets and houses the parking brake and shift lever. This greets the dash in the center where an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio now resides along with some storage, ash receptacle, and temp wheels. In front of the 1 spoked steering wheel is a simplistic dash with a few analog gauges and plenty of warning (aka idiot) lights. The headliner is a mini tiger skin pattern in light and dark gray. It's tight but may be suffering from some mold growing on it. Alouette, gentille alouette…

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a small 1361cc 4-cylinder engine stuffed in an unrestored engine bay. This has a single 2-barrel carburetor on top, and a 5-speed manual transmission on back. Va vite!

Undercarriage
Pretty much all aero panels throughout, rust free stamped steel for the floor pans and rockers which show slight fading and patina. Hydropneumatic suspension is on all 4 corners and has 3 adjustment settings which are controlled on the console. Disc brakes are on front, and drums for the back.

Drive-Ability
This car started easily and the suspension jumped to life defaulting to its highest setting. Off to the test track where it accelerated smoothly and has solid braking. The ride is on a cloud like air environment and all 3 settings worked well. Noted are a few Lucas-like electrics in the radio, which was inop as was the rear wiper, turn signals and fog lights. Tant pis pour l'électricité française I'd say.

A rarely seen example from a very forward thinking French car maker and industrialist artist. The hydropneumatic ride suspension is very nice, and the exterior is rust free and fairly straight suffering just a few dents and dings. Frowns for the electrics that are non functioning, but the interior remains nicely preserved. Bon Vivant!!
