Chopped '56 Bel Air LS1 V8 Automatic Art Morrison Chassis Kugel IRS A/C
Chopped '56 Bel Air LS1 V8 Automatic Art Morrison Chassis Kugel IRS A/C ///
Custom cars are easy to find, but few show the balance, craftsmanship, and vision of this 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. The project began with a previously restored and sorted driver before being taken down for a full, frame-off build. It was completed by Platinum Black in Huntington Beach, California after a multi-year effort that wrapped in 2017. The result was strong enough to earn a Goodguys Builder's Choice Award at the 2017 Del Mar Nationals. Riding on an Art Morrison chassis with a 1.5-inch chopped roof and smoothed, gloss black bodywork, the car features shaved handles, tucked bumpers, and one-off Foose wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros. Power comes from a 5.7L LS1 V8 crate engine topped with Borla individual throttle body injection, backed by a 4L60E 4-speed automatic and a custom stainless exhaust. Underneath is Art Morrison front suspension and a Kugel Komponents independent rear suspension, with polished 4-wheel disc brakes at all corners. Inside, Ron Magnus reimagined the cabin in maroon leather, with bucket seats, custom dashboad, modern instrumentation, power windows and locks, and a high-end custom stereo. Thoughtfully executed from top to bottom, this Bel Air walks the line between vintage style and modern performance without missing a step.
