1941 Dodge WC 15 Command Car

For consignment, a 1941 Dodge WC 15 Command Car showing 4,175 miles, but the true miles are unknown. The unique shape and large size of the WC 15's may have made them less maneuverable than the Willys Jeep and some say, an easier target, but served as comfortable and useful transporters for Army officers.

Exterior
Only one option here, and of course it's Olive Drab, so put away the polish and wax as this is as matte as you can get! It's augmented by white call outs including the Army star, Hooah! On the center of each side, space is utilized with a depression serving to house a spare wheel and a platform to hold a jerry can, all maintaining the olive palette. A hardy brush guard protects the large opening to the radiator and the headlights. An olive canvas top includes a small plastic rear window which snapes to the back over a somewhat bulbous rear where a pioneer tool kit is affixed on the rear hatch above some military grade bumperettes. The exterior is in great condition and this one is ready for the next Memorial Day parade!

Interior
Olive Drab canvas like cloth covers both the front and rear bench seat, each with some appropriate patina but in good shape with a tear or two on the front. The rear passenger, usually a high ranking official, has access to a metal document case and several horizontal posts and tracks are present to hold a table top used to display maps and documents. Up front, smooth olive drab paint covers the dash with a number of vintage gauges and of course, government issued instruction plates. Our simple steering wheel shows some usage but is fully intact and the floor is a barren and painted wood with a rubber mat for the rear passengers. The underside of the canvas top is in great condition.

Drivetrain
Driver quality esthetics dress the 218ci L-head inline six cylinder behind the grille, capable of 85 horsepower. It has a 1-barrel carburetor and is mated to a 3-speed manual that splits power between front and rear axles with 5.83 gears.

Undercarriage
Typical patina underneath but nothing out of place. We note some residual oil but in general, this is a clean underside. Leaf springs are utilized front and rear as are drum brakes. A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and exits to the side midway back.

Drive-Ability
Talk about invincible! Move over, Hummer, this thing is ready to tackle some rough terrain. Occupants will need to hold on to whatever they can find. The 218 is not the fastest mode of transportation, but the 16-inch wheels with LT rated tires make you feel like you can be a peacemaker wherever you need to go, regardless of how long it takes to get there. The headlights of this heavy beast are the only thing not working, so daytime missions only for now, as all other functions work as they should. Command vehicles are fairly uncommon in the military vehicle world, and this particular genre of enthusiasm is quite active around the country and even in some other countries where the presence of American vehicles was a welcome sight.
