Mark V Convertible

Description

1960 Lincoln Mark V Convertible

Cat-eye glasses are one style that has stood the test of time. Nearly a century old, the cat-eye has managed to create its own distinct look each decade. Cat-eye glasses were first created in the 1930s. The frame later became a huge trend for sunglasses in the 1960's when Audrey Hepburn famously wore them in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's. Since then, we've seen the cat-eye on everyone from Barbie, to Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and today's top fashion influencers.

For consignment, a fashion plate design from the beginning of the wild and wooly 1960's in the form of a 1960 Lincoln Mark V Convertible. This cat's eye canted stacked headlight car is on the verge of greatness and smack dab in the middle of a restoration. It will need some tender loving, midcentury modern hands to complete it, but the good news is the body is nearly there, some rechromed bumpers are with it, and despite all the clutter of parts within the passenger compartment has a completed interior. OOOhhh go for it!

Exterior
A truly unique design taking on a futuristic look from stem to stern and top to bottom, we can begin with the canted stacked “cats eye” headlights. Our square design electric shaver-esque design grill is not on; however you'll find it in the seats. With a glance from the side view it has a distinctive shape with its squared off finned look, and unique convertible top that has a flat “breezeway” turnpike vertical rear glass which was distinctively Lincoln. Side view rear of the car looks like it's going to be another T bird, however once we get back there a surprise awaits. Here we don't see but it comes with the car, the rear trio of round taillights that have the same look of the button you would push to end the world in nuclear annihilation style. More shaver-esque squares and large rechromed bumper below, (currently inside the passenger compartment). Long hood and trunk lid are actually painted but are also rust free. Continental logo badged wheel coverings are on and are wrapped by wide white sidewall rubber all around.

Interior
Wrapped like a time capsule the seats have been recovered, but at the risk of unwrapping them and exposing them to all the parts also wrapped inside we leave the material and texture as well as the color TBD up to unwrapping. The original dash is somewhat restored and has a Buck Rogers in the 21st century look with 4 rounded bumps on the top containing the gauges, and a machined swirl pattern metal dash below containing all metal buttons, pulls and the radio…very industrial but elegant looking. The car will need new carpeting, and a gaggle of wiring is hanging below the dash is noted. The convertible top appears in fairly good condition with the structural framing inside being secure. Consigner states a back seat has also been recovered and will come with the car.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is the factory original 430ci V8 topped with a 4-barrel carburetor, and on back is the Lincoln Turbo Drive by Borg Warner 3-speed automatic. The rear axle weighs in at 2.89 gear ratio. Currently the engine does not run and is covered in some sanding dust from the body work.

Undercarriage
Slight surface rust is noted, but still structurally sound construction. On the rockers there is some invasive rust that has taken the inside metal out. Fairly simple undercarriage with long straight steel stamped panels for the floor pans. We note independent coil spring front suspension, and leaf springs for the rear. This car is also equipped with power drum brakes on all 4 corners.

A project car which when completed will be a very unique, not often seen example of mid century “contemporary” styling that definitely stands the test of time, and you will certainly be driving one cool car around. Shall we play a game??
