"Car of the Year!"
Despite numerous complications from the start, somehow the Corvair was named “Car Of The Year” in 1960 by Motor Trend. Shortly thereafter Ralph Nader said it was the car that was “Unsafe at any speed”. Nonetheless, it was something that was completely different both in styling and drivetrain offering a air-cooled flat 6 mounted in the rear…It was sold in two-generations, the first from 1960-1964 and the second from 1965 -1969 with a total of over 1.8 Million units sold. It was positioned under $2,000 and would be the only “compact” car offered by US manufacturers for a minute. This particular unit is the 110 HP Monza with factory A/C and a 4-speed. This comes to us out of long term ownership with everything in working order. The car starts right up, idles and goes down the road as I believe it should. The car has had a re-paint at some point with some paint imperfections (fish eyes) throughout. The paint shines nicely and I am not sure if a wet sand and paint correction could get those out. The interior is in great condition, the frunk is tidy as is the engine bay. This is not a crusty or rusty car and could make someone an excellent start to a really nice car. We welcome any questions or inspections here in our Traverse City location.
