Another beautiful Basil Classic... this 1964 Ford Galaxie showing 35,989 miles has been handpicked and meets Joe Basil's standards of excellence and tradition of fine automobiles since 1951.
This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL was built as a genuine R-code 427-cubic-inch V8 fastback, paired from the factory with a 4-speed manual transmission — one of the most desirable and rarest drivetrain combinations Ford offered during the full-size muscle car era. The car was cosmetically refurbished by one of its previous owners roughly 20 years ago. Following the current owner's acquisition, the drivetrain was fully overhauled to restore performance to the car's high-performance heritage. Starting on the exterior, the car is finished in factory Vintage Burgundy, having been repainted in the mid-2000s, and features Hi-Po-style 15-inch Kelsey-Hayes wheels, powder-coated black to complete the classic street racer look. Moving to the interior, it's finished in factory white and features reproduction door panels from SMS Auto Fabrics, installed in 2022. The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and is flanked by a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 35,000 miles, with approximately 3,000 miles added before our acquisition. Additional options include a center console and a push-button radio. Powering this gem is a 427 cubic-inch V8, rebuilt by Cooley Performance. Upgrades on this engine include Diamond 11:1 forged pistons, Le Mans connecting rods, stainless-steel valves, and an aluminum low-rise intake manifold topped with two rebuilt Holley carburetors. A factory-specification, unused crankshaft and camshaft were installed during the rebuild, and the long-branch exhaust manifolds were powder-coated for a clean, durable finish. PerTronix electronic ignition was added alongside a dual-point distributor. This engine is mated to a 4-speed Toploader transmission, sourced from Dan Williams Toploaders — a highly regarded name among Ford Toploader specialists. Underneath the car is a dual-exhaust system fitted with Flowmaster mufflers, giving the big-block a deep, satisfying rumble. The vehicle also retains manual steering, 11-inch drum brakes, a 6-leaf rear spring setup, and Hi-Po steering stops — period-correct hardware that keeps this Galaxie true to its high-performance roots. Come in and check out one of the most perfect Galaxies on the market.
