SUPER RARE AND DESIRABLE TII MODEL! FUEL INJECTED, FJORD BLUE OVER BLUE, PANOSPORT WHEELS!
It's sporty. It's compact. This 1972 BMW 2002 TII exemplifies fun on wheels. Not only is it an outstanding example of German automotive style as the '70s were entering full swing, but its rarity is beyond question. Not many 2002s were manufactured in Touring configuration like this one and you can bet, having only logged an unusually low 80,525 miles and benefitting from an extensive overhaul both inside and out, this specimen represents the cream of the crop. It wears very sharp Fjord Blue paint that exudes quality, and though a buff and cut session at the hands of a skilled detailer would have it in top notch form quickly, rest assured that it's a bona fide head turner in its present form.
The blue vinyl interior retains its stock appearance and makes for an inspiring, nostalgia-inducing driving environment. The front buckets are supportive and show no rips or tears and though no one would confuse the 2002 with a purpose-driven passenger car, there is a viable rear bench in back that will accommodate a pair of adult passengers. Up front, the factory-issue steering wheel still holds its position on the column and the dash area beyond it shows nicely, with a set of clear gauges in the instrument cluster and every switch and knob firmly in place.
Beneath the hood, a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine stands by, ready for action. Fed by fuel-injection, it offers substantially more power than its naturally aspirated 2002 counterparts from the same era and boasts a legacy for performance that prompted two different BMW executives to install a version of it in their own personal cars even before it was available to the public more than a half century ago. The engine pairs with a smooth-shifting four-speed manual transmission that puts full control of its output in the hands of the driver and runs through its gears with no issue. With its relatively modest curb weight and upgraded front disc brakes that come via its top tier TII configuration, this 2002 stops very quickly and its steering is surprisingly communicative and precise.
