Classic Look/Rebuilt 1600cc Engine/4-Speed Manual/Rare Sunroof
1972 Volkswagen Beetle
The Frog, the Flea, the Cockroach. The Turtle, and the Mouse. The Little Egg, the Ladybird, the Bubble. In Denmark, it's called a Pregnant Rollerskate—or the Hitler sled. In Mexico, Vocho or vochito. All nicknames referring to the People's Car, or: the Volkswagen Beetle. Known by many monikers, the car means different things to different people, yet love for the VW Beetle is universal.
For consignment, a fully restored both inside and out VW Beetle from 1972. Sporting a snappy blue paint job, flashy white interior, blingy black wheels, and a rebuilt engine with some performance upgrades, this bug is ready to cruise the strip near Redondo Beach before catching some gnarly waves, Hang Ten man!
Exterior
This car was completely stripped to bare metal, any rust dealt with, then carefully sanded to receive the blue paint, which is very nice. A rarely seen manual sunroof is factory equipment and gives you the option of wind and sun in your hair or safe and dry for those rainy beach days. The removal of the big chrome bumpers gives the car a nice custom look with only small stainless steel bumperettes poking through. Chrome is excellent and was replaced if needed or polished at the same time of the body redux. New black 8 spoke wheels with polished lips are on all four corners and are wrapped in 205/50R15 blackwall rubber for that California Custom look. A shout out to the trunk, (actually the bonnet), which has been redone with a nice gray flocked storage area as well as a matching spare wheel and tire.
Interior
A swing of the door and we see a blue metal painted surrounding a white horizontally ribbed vinyl panel, complete with the door handle, billet window crank, and a black door pull. Dual textured vinyl seats have smooth white vinyl bolsters and lots of clean white piping. The rear seat is a long bench and stretches from C pillar to C pillar. Black carpet is on the floors and is nearly spotless. A simple black padded dash with circular speedometer and integral gas gauge sit within the vertical ribbed speaker area which is fronted by an original steering wheel in good condition and sports the Wolfsberg logo on the horn pad. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD player radio is also mounted in the dash and also shows some wear on the knobs and buttons. The headliner is white and is nice and tight in its perforated pattern.
Drivetrain
A cleaned up and rebuilt 1600cc horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine sits in the rear of this car and had a Hot Cam installed during said rebuild. It has a new 1-barrel carb on top with a clean chrome air cleaner assembly, and a 4-speed manual transmission. A 3.67 ratio final drive turns the rear tires. All this resides within a nice blue painted engine bay with mirrored sides to show off all the bling.
Undercarriage
Minor surface rust is attaching itself to the suspension, which shows as transverse torsion bars upfront and swing arm with semi trailing arms on the rear. Floor pans are totally rust free and nice and black. Headers feed spent fossils into a glasspack style muffler and drum brakes are all around.
Drivability
This car fires right up and gives that nice tinny sound only a rear engine VW can give. It shifts smoothly, and corners as it should. It provides a nice ride, and even the simple interior is comfortable with plenty of interior room for this larger than life wordsmith. All functions were operational, and it was a blast having the sunroof open.
A good restoration with no stones left unturned. Nice paint, interior and a good runner, a classic and sounding like it '72 V-Dub. California here we come!
