Description

1936 Ford Tudor Sedan

The Art Deco Style was all the rage in 1936, and Ford designers seized the moment with the slant-back and humpback sedans. A road to hood V grille, teardrop headlights, split rear window, curvaceous rear lines with two tiny red oval angled taillights were the inspirations taken from the movement. The hump-back was hailed as one of the most beautiful designs of the decade.

For consignment…an all steel humpback version on the 1936 Ford. This car has been modified with a lowered ride, has a 350ci V8, a 3-speed automatic transmission, and a nicely complimenting two tone gray paint. A street rod with a twist.

Exterior
Retaining much of its original look, this shows a Tudor model with the “humpback” trunk. Spray on a two tone with light gray covering the upper body sections and darker gray on the lowers and maroon pinstripe delinitates the 2 and follows the darker gray as it wraps around the rear of the car and over the hump trunk area. The paint is showing in good condition with some inclusions and dry spots noted. The grille surrounding chrome trim has been retained and it can be seen on the grille surround, hood ornament and cowling louver horizontal strips. The front bumper is original to the car and has a nice chrome finish with a neat dip in the center highlighting the blacked-out grille. Bulbous fenders flank the hood and make their way rearward in the form of a running board at the end of which forms the rear fender. The back of these fenders follow the line of the humpback and have single tail lights on the end of long tubes which are attached to the rear fenders just above the bumpers. Another curve in the middle of the bumper in nice condition frames the trunk, and has dual chrome tipped 3-inch exhaust pipes peering out from under it. A continental kit has been added to the back and has some snappy pinstriping to set it off. Polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels are in staggered format with 15" on the front and 17" on the rear. These blingy wheels are wrapped in newer blackwall rubber and add a nice grounding to the car.

Interior
A swing of the door, and you are in gray and maroon heaven. Lots of gray carpeting in like new condition flows over the floors and is protected by gray carpeted mats. Smooth two-tone gray and dark gravy vinyl covers the doors and is separated in the middle by a maroon vertical tuck and roll patterned vinyl insert with a nicely contrasting wooden armrest. Late model charcoal and dark gray leather buckets are in the front showing the right amount of wrinkles and folds that only time can produce. A 2 plus 2 style bench stretches across the back but provides plenty of legroom for the extra 2. The light gray dash has been redone and customized to include Autometer gauges, and a few streamlined warning lights. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD player has been added in front of the passenger seat, and has speakers spread around including a subwoofer and amp in the trunk area. Wrap it all up with a custom Grant wood rally steering wheel, and a long automatic floor shifter, and you are in street rod heaven.

Drivetrain
A consignor stated 4,800 mile chromed and polished aluminum 350ci V8 resides in a light gray engine bay. Some engraved flames on chromed valve covers, and air cleaner top as well as braided stainless hoses all around give a beautiful complimentary shine to this mill. A 4bbl Edelbrock carburetor is perched atop and does a fine job of feeding the mill fuel and air. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is attached to the back and sends power to a 10-bolt rear axle.

Undercarriage
A clean undercoat free environment shows very little rust, and if it is present, it is all surface rust. An upgrade to vented power disc brakes in front, and power drums in the rear all with new brake lines attached. A gleaming driveshaft and independent coil spring suspension for the front and leaf springs on the rear provide the well handling ride. Headers are noted and feed the exhale from this powerful mill to the back of the car by way of Flowmaster mufflers.

Drive-Ability
Upon entering you are bowled over by the gray two tone leather, and it is as comfortable and modern as it is gray! This car started right up and ran nicely. It has a good smooth ride, and plenty of power. On our ride we turned several heads, and all functions were working swimmingly.
A very tastefully performed restoration with a straight steel exterior with a snappy two-tone paint job and maroon pinstriping. A two-tone gray interior in leather and a beautifully put together undercarriage, this car is a turn the key and have fun with this Humpback from 1936, and plenty of upgrade's courtesy several different makes and models. An amalgamation of parts which all come together to perform a nice automotive symphony.
