Description

Relentlessly developed, improved and race-proven since the prototype emerged from an Austrian workshop in 1948, Porsche's 356 and its variants set the standard for postwar sporting cars. It also continues to reign as the basis of Porsche's racing dynasty with countless victories and championships to its credit, beginning with a class victory at Le Mans in 1951. While long coveted as preserved or restored collector cars ever since new, the 356 is revered for its ability to respond to modifications and upgrading for increased performance, all while maintaining uncanny good looks that never fail to draw admirers and collectors.

A true “giant killer” on the track and any worthy roadway, the handling and braking of the 356 have consistently made it a threat against far more powerful competitors. While the 356 has always been deceptively potent, hardcore enthusiasts, builders and restorers continue to explore new ways to heighten the experience—including a gentleman known as Mr. Farmer, a long-time 356/911 conversion restorer with a well-deserved reputation for quality and detail.

This captivating 1960 Porsche 356B coupe is a compelling example, mildly customized with a competition look and feel. Power is delivered by a 2.2L Porsche flat-6 engine liberated from an earlier 911 model, with twin carburetors providing induction. Hotter spark is delivered by an upgraded electronic ignition system. A 5-speed Porsche Type 901 manual rear transaxle delivers the Porsche's newfound power output.

Handsomely finished in 1954 Speedster Blue paint over a beige interior, the 356 features competition-style bucket seats, German square-weave carpeting, a custom floor console, modern AM/FM radio and a custom steering wheel with Porsche hub crest. Other choice highlights include a Porsche 911 rear suspension system, 4-wheel disc brakes and a custom long-range Carrera 80-liter, center-fill fuel tank. Ventilated steel wheels and Hoosier Speedster tires provide road contact. Finishing touches include a “Porsche 356/6” crest, Porsche badges, deleted front and rear bumpers, custom front cooling ducts, headlamp grilles, custom lightweight door handles and window cranks, classically styled modern gauges and more. Looking great and ready to enjoy, this 356B “Outlaw” will certainly be a blast to drive.
