1936 Chevrolet Pickup

1936:
--The runaway best seller of the year was Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind, which in 6 months surpassed the sales of the previous best seller in American history, Uncle Tom's Cabin.
--Charles Chaplin's Modern Times was released.
--Feb. 17 Fourteen thousand Goodyear rubber workers staged a sit-down strike in Akron, O., demanding recognition of their CIO union. The tactic was suggested by a Hungarian rubber worker who had read about its use in Europe.
--Summer Jesse Owens, a black, won 4 gold medals in track events at the Olympics in Berlin. Hitler had expected these games to be a showcase that would prove the superiority of the Aryan race and the Nazi system.
--June 27 Franklin Roosevelt, nominated again as the Democratic presidential candidate.
--Chevrolet introduced a mid-year change to the pickup truck lineup, a more rounded cab to match the styling of the 30's as well as the styling of their competitors.

Goer in the true sense of the word, as the consignor has drivability on his mind every step of the build. No stone left unturned on this one!

Exterior
A deep dark purple and clean crisp white mixed with a peppering of chrome best describes this steel bodied and fiberglass fendered 1936 rodded pickup. A few flaws and cracks are noted in the white paint on the fiberglass fender but all else remains presenting nicely. A pink pinstripe delinitate the deep dark purple that envelopes the hood, upper 1/3rd of the door, and rounded cab roof from the white lower body, curvaceous fenders and long textured running boards. This build is retaining most of its original look, save for some painting over chromed areas and removal of the bumpers. This truck presents with straight panels, good gaps, sweet fenders and running boards, and a beautiful bed. Speaking of the bed, it's over the top with white painted sides and a fuel tank behind the cab, then a new oak bed was installed with black painted stainless dividers, and lots of varnish to make the wood shine. Highly polished Weld Rodlite wheels, and blackwall tires ground the car and add some bling.

Interior
Hitting the popper and swinging open the door we are met with panels that are covered in gray broadcloth with vertical stitching and smooth velour with only a simple chrome window crank breaking up the gray. A gray bench in door panel matching gray cloth and velour stretches between the doors and sits in a sea of lightly soiled gray carpeting. A Lokar shifter grows from this carpet and hanging just below the dash we note the controller and vents for the A/C system. A late model GM steering column has a 4 spoke heavily padded steering wheel atop. In front of this column is the purple dash with a brushed aluminum surround for the instrument cluster. A white faced VDO speedometer sits front and center in this panel and is flanked on either side by smaller gauges for engine monitoring. An AM/FM stereo resides in the glovebox and wrapping up our tour, above we note a gray felted headliner.

Drivetrain
Swinging up either side of the center hinged hood we are met with automotive excitement in the form of a 350ci V8. On top of this mill is a single 4-barrel Holley carburetor and it is dressed up with an Edelbrock aluminum air cleaner and valve covers. A TH350 3-speed automatic is attached to the back and sends power to a Ford 8" rear axle.

Undercarriage
Mustang II for the front, and leaf springs for the rear suspensions with disc front and drum rear brakes. Imco mufflers take the handoff from the engine headers, and snake rearward in their rust-free condition. A purple painted frame with only minor patina and road dirt provides the backbone for the strong steel floor pans also in purple. We note the front suspension, driveshaft and rear axle are also bathed in the same body matching purple.

Drive-Ability
Slipping inside this plush gray interior I fired it up and off to the test track I went. I noticed on the way that this is really a nice build, and all functions and placements were well thought out. Smooth power from the mill, easy smooth shifting from the automatic, bias free braking and good handling thanks to the updated suspension. All functions were working well, and I took the liberty of a 2nd lap around the track just to appreciate this build a little longer.

Older restoration/rodding, which is very tastefully done, and remains timeless. A head turner, this truck can be used as a hauler, as well have a secret life as a mauler!
