J2 Midget

Description

Collectible Motor Car of Atlanta is pleased to offer this ultra-rare 1933 MG J2 Midget. This 1933 MG J2 Midget spent much of its life in New Zealand, where it is said to have undergone a refurbishment prior to importation to California more than 11 years ago. Work reportedly included an exterior color change, conversion to hydraulic brakes, and the installation of a replacement 847cc inline-four, which is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The J2 was offered strictly as a two-seater, and notable features included a double-hump scuttle, low-cut doors, and footwells that extended into the coverage of the louvered hood. According to the previous owner, this example was previously blue and was refinished in red with black fenders as part of the refurbishment performed sometime in the 1960s under previous ownership. Additional modifications include the installation of a single Brooklands screen behind the stock fold-down windshield. Black-painted wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and wear 4.00-19″ Dunlop tires. A matching spare is mounted at the rear. Updates during prior ownership include a conversion to hydraulic brakes. The black soft top is said to fit improperly due to the installation of the supplementary windscreen. Side curtains are not included. Smiths instrumentation consists of a primary gauge housing an inoperative 100-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a five-digit odometer presently showing approximately 6k miles. True mileage is unknown. The replacement 847cc inline-four is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was factory rated to produce 36 horsepower at 5,000 rpm when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed non-synchromesh manual gearbox. Work completed in preparation for the sale is said to have included rebuilding the carburetors with replacement piping, adjusting the camshaft timing, repairing the primary water pipe, refinishing the exhaust manifold, and changing the fluids. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a super-unique pre-war British classic! Inquire today.
