Description

Cruisin Classics is proud to present this iconic 1949 Ford Custom Convertible that has just arrived in the showroom. From 1946 to 1948 the big three American car manufacturers were resuming production after WWII. All were basically starting back up offering their pre-war designs. But in 1948 Ford rolled out a brand new line of cars for 1949, making it the first major post-war American car line and beating it's competitors to market by 6 months or more. This model featured some revolutionary changes that really put Ford out front. This 49 model has an independant coil spring front wishbone suspension and longitudinal rear leaf springs – providing a noticeably better ride quality than it's predecessors. The old torque tube driveshaft that Ford had always used was replaced by the more universally used Hotchkiss open driveshaft to send power to the rear wheels. The chassis was also new for 49, featuring an integrated steel structure advertised by Ford as the “Lifegaurd Body”. Being a convertible model, this car also has an X-member reinforcement to add body rigidity. The exterior of this car is the first of the “shoe-box” era for Ford and sported the center-mounted bullet-nose grill. The car has been resprayed at some point in it's life and the paint is driver quality. The chrome is in good condition and an additional chrome bumper extension has been added to the front. This Ford features a continental kit, fender skirts, a 49-only hood emblem, dual exhaust with chrome tips, and dual spotlights. The white electro-hydraulic folding cloth top operates as it should and the cloth is in very good condition with no rips or tears. Finishing off the exterior look are body color painted wheels with Ford embossed chrome hubcaps and trim rings wrapped in white-wall tires. Under the hood you'll find a 239ci flat-head V-8 with a 2 barrel downdraft carburetor mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a column shifer. Brakes are 10” drums and were touted by Ford as “Magic-Action” braking ability in their brochures. Open the drivers door to find an inviting high quality interior with newer seat covers, door panels, and carpet. The two-tone tuck and roll vinyl apholstery is in excellent condition and is quite comfortable. The original dash is in great condition, as are the original door handles, window cranks, and steering wheel. Drop the top on this classic Ford, hit the key, and head off to your local car show, diner, or country road in old school style! One thing is for sure in this car – you'll get looks and thumbs up wherever you go!
