Great Driver/Lovely 40's Charm/216ci I6/Garage Kept/Clean Tan Interior
For consignment, a 4-door sport sedan from the bowtie company in 1947 Stylemaster form. This car is in nice condition, has an inline 6 cylinder engine under the hood, a nearly new interior and bleeds 40's style. Showing nicely on the exterior thanks to being garage kept, and having been used in 6 weddings and various parades and car shows, it runs well, and is a nice drivable car for someone who likes the look of the late 40's motoring.
Exterior
Bathed in black paint is nice and shiny and mostly free from any inclusions but we do note a matte black touch-up on the driver's lower rear fender. Chrome trimmings remain bright and shiny, with some early signs of fading on the chrome grille bars. Yellow foglights have been added and flank small American flags hovering in the center. Steel is straight and rust free for the body panels, and the original charm of the rounded bulbous looking hood and hanging side fenders with some chrome trimmings have been retained. The running board is about to go away with the turn of the decade it totally will, but this car still has small running boards connecting the fenders which are highlighted by stainless trimmings. Chevrolet badged dog dish moon caps are on all 4 corners covering tan steel wheels and are wrapped in wide whitewall tires.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we see the metal painted woodgrain door sills which border smooth tan vinyl covered panels. These are dressed to the nines with chrome cranks and actuators as well as tan vinyl armrests. The seats tubs are the original and have tuck and roll vinyl covering them in a clean coloring, and appear as new. The front bench sits in a tub of smooth vinyl surround and has a courtesy light on the back of this chair. A rear bench sports the same pattern and appears to have never been sat in but does offer plenty of legroom. Black carpet floods the floors, and it appears as new and a tight tan headliner has been installed. Upfront a brown metal dash is appearing original and looking nice and aged with no real damage. Original gauges and horizontal ribbed trimmings have some smaller knobs peppering the front panel. An original bakelite dark brown 3 spoke steering wheel is large and in front of the dash, and has a cloisonné embedded Chevrolet badge in the center which has lost its color.
Drivetrain
In what appears to have been a restored engine bay lies a 216ci inline 6-cylinder engine. The engine bay is clean and rust free and shows well with the gray painted mill. A 1-barrel carburetor is beneath the oil bath air cleaner setup, and a 3-speed transmission is on back, with 4.11 rear gears for the axle. Wiring appears to be updated as well.
Undercarriage
Patina and surface rust cover nearly every inch of the undercarriage with the flooring and frame remains solid. No areas of invasive rust are noted and the lower inside of the doors have some surface that should be remedied before the rust becomes invasive. Independent coil springs and leaf springs provide the ride and drum brakes are seen on all 4 corners. Single exhaust is noted and presents with only minor surface rusting on the pipes.
Drive-Ability
She started right up and ran smoothly. For a large car, it accelerates nicely, and has decent brakes for drums. A fine experience.
Despite some minor exterior faults, this car presents nicely on the body front, fit and finish are good, and engine and engine bay have been addressed in an earlier restoration. TLC will bring that exterior right back up to snuff, and you will be able to pile your family in and go for a Sunday drive…Remember those??
