1936 Ford

Deluxe Sedan

Description

1936 Ford Deluxe Sedan

In the midst of its second wild success, Ford continued to refine the lines of their sedans and coupes with every year getting a redesign with some slight but effective aerodynamic and styling changes. Their slogan “Beauty was built in” was heavily pushed in magazine advertising, and Ford felt it was well worth the glitzy ads to sell more cars.

For consignment, a nice original looking non rodded Ford Tudor Deluxe sedan. Complete with teardrop headlight styling, curvaceous centers, and a humpback. A great amalgamation of Art Deco and Art Nouveau styling from the pen of Edsel Ford.

Exterior
Dark blue paint in nice condition bathes the exterior panels. Every now and again there are hints of orange peel texture in the paint, and inclusions are noted throughout. Wonderfully formed steel curves abound on this car, and they are accented with either brite-work, or just plain shine. Bumpers with their inverted eyebrow center dip, headlight bezels, handles and mirrors are all excellently restored with no dimpling or rusting. From its vertical ribbed “shield” style grille complete with blue oval and V8 hood adornment we are rolling in style. Rolling with teardrop headlights and chrome windshield trim, it's all class. Also, one has to love the large V and the figure 8 within its logo on the dog dish hubcaps, wrapped with wide whites and thin bias plys. Keep it simple stupid (KISS) abounds and is wholly subscribed to on this model. A spare tire covered in steel and chrome rests above the rear bumper and hangs from the rear of this car.

Interior
Tan broadcloth abounds on this interior where it can be seen on the door panels which are slightly wrinkled, and front bucket seats. It is also seen on the rear bench, and pillars as well as on the headliner. A few stains and discoloration can be noted throughout, but the tuck tufting on the seats is uber plush and fit for a king. The tan steel dash in Art Deco style, has wonderful cream-colored gauges with fine pointers and Art Deco numbering and graphics. Fronting this is in my mind worth the price of admission with a Banjo style steering wheel sharing a nice patina and emblazoned with that iconic V8 logo which I'm a sucker for! Bakelite knobs that have darkened a bit to brown color and chrome trim have lots of patina and show a life well used.

Drivetrain
A V8 with 221 cubes in flathead form is buttoned up under the side hinged hood. A single 2-barrel carburetor tops this mill, and a 3-speed manual transmission and 4.11 gears make up the drivetrain.

Undercarriage
A fine patina of surface rust graces nearly every surface of the undercarriage with all remaining solid except an area of the driver's floor pan that has succumbed to invasive rust and shows the carpeting underlayment. A single exhaust with a new muffler and tailpipe are on for the exhale and transverse leaf spring, (buggy style), suspension is on all 4 corners with mechanical drum brakes seen everywhere.

Drive-Ability
Starts easily, runs smoothly, and drives very nicely. Going up and down through the gears just swimmingly, and the original interior is still good and comfortable. There is nothing better than spinning an old banjo style wheel, it is relatable to driving as a bus with its large diameter. We thoroughly enjoyed our ride.

Nice original looking exterior cleaned up and repainted, clean chrome bumpers, and those fantastic teardrop headlights, you are in Art Nouveau heaven. Inside you move to Art Deco heaven and broadcloth abundance, all in its original form. It's held up nicely, and at present is better than the original. A fine buy for the asking price. Imagine running about in your Tudor, and maybe even eventually upgrading to a Fordor. Leave it to Henry to come up with these terms!
